BACHELOR GROVE CEMETERY
Bachelor Grove Cemetery is an old cemetery, having its first burials in the 1830’s. It is considered the most haunted site in Chicago by many. The tombstones have been neglected, vandalized and damaged over the years, with many tombstones supposedly thrown into the pond next to it. However, there are still numerous left to see, although many of these have been damaged.
A phantom figure of a woman sitting on one of the tombstones was photographed in 1991. Also, numerous people have reported seeing orbs of light at night. There have also been reports of people seeing a house in the woods while they walk along the path to the cemetery. There has never been a house built here. The smell of flowers has also been reported, even in the dead of winter.
NOTE: It is NOT advisable to ever visit Bachelor Grove Cemetery AT NIGHT, as this is the property of the Cook County Forest Preserve District. You will be arrested for trespassing or worse, as people of questionable motives have also been reported being there. It is also highly recommended to completely stay away anytime on October 31, Halloween. Otherwise, during the daylight hours and not on Halloween, one can walk down the worn path to the cemetery and visit it. Just like anywhere today, just be careful.
