European man was first recorded coming to the Chicago area in 1673, when Louis Joliet and Father Jacques Marquette “discovered” the Chicago Portage, where the Great Lakes in essence meet the Mississippi River. However, this area had been previously inhabited by Native Americans for thousands of years before our time. Our historical tours involve a historical event, whether that involved the Native Americans or early European colonists, and even early American history.
